Our Mission

​We believe in whole grains and choose fresh house milled stone ground flour in all of our naturally leavened sourdough loaves. Bread and Flours is a plant based company, and all our handcrafted products are preservative free.  We seek out local farms and local food first.  We promote a vision of balanced health and wellness to our community, for today and future generations.  We believe all businesses, including our own, have a responsibility to use environmentally mindful packaging. 

We offer a contactless delivery service right to your front door. Below you will find all pertinent details on ordering, cutoff times, payment, delivery, and menu options.


To order online, please visit our SHOP tab at the top of this page.  The selections for the week will be shown, and you can make your payment there. Please also make sure to include the following: your address and any special instructions (gate code, etc), and a phone number in case we need to reach you.  This will help keep us all safer by eliminating the need for money and/or credit cards to pass hands.

We will be taking sourdough bread orders up until 5 pm on Wednesday, November 25th, 2020

for delivery, Saturday, November 28th, 2020 between 8 am and 5 pm.

We will be taking orders for pantry selections up until 12 noon on Friday, November 27th, to deliver November 28th. 


We do not ship our products via any type of mail service. We do offer home delivery to certain local communities.

We will be making deliveries to the following local communities: Palm Springs, Desert Hot Springs (**DHS customers we have one pick up time 845 am at the Chevron Station on Gene Autry-- details below) Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Bermuda Dunes, Indian Wells, La Quinta, Indio.

We will be charging a $2.50 delivery charge, regardless of how much is ordered. Because we aren't sure how many stops we will have, we cannot give an estimated delivery time. Your paid invoice is your guarantee that we will deliver to you.  
We will place all your items in a recyclable brown paper bag and leave it at your door.

For all gourmands in your home or in your restaurant, a perfect compliment for presentations for your table are these delicious sun-ripened on the vine "Flame Raisins" grown and picked in Thermal, CA. ( local)  Each cluster of these seedless grapes is managed in their natural state as a whole cluster of fruit before being packaged as a whole cluster of raisins.  Then at the optimal time, they are hand-picked at their peak of ripeness, these are plump, big, and satisfying raisins.  As you bite into one, your mouth is filled with the richness of the raisin and a boatload of complexity on your palate.  You can guarantee Bread and Flours will be incorporating some of these beauties in future recipes.  You can add them to your homemade muesli, oatmeal, scones, french toast, muffins, or cookies.  Don Kirzian is the founder and innovator, with his team they have created a beautiful presentation. Hellenic Farms are curators of world-class Greek products.  Vivianna, the owner, is sourcing directly from the archipelago these exceptional food products and started her company in 2013 after moving from Greece for love.  Together with her husband, they spoke to local producers about this idea of putting together dried figs into a salami.  These Fig Salamis are 100% plant-based and made with whole ingredients.  They are GMO-free, with no added sugar, and are gluten-free.  Bread and Flours had the opportunity to try these and we were smitten. We are thrilled to debut these two flavors in the Coachella Valley: The Dried Greek Figs Orange Zest Pepper, and Dried Greek Fig Almonds Black Pepper. Kristin’s Cranberry Relish with Walnuts and Mint - $11.50

If you grew up like I did, cranberry sauce was the thing that was served up once a year, all jiggly and gelatinous straight out of the can and onto the holiday table.  As a child, I marveled as my grandfather sliced into this bizarre concoction and then seemed to add it to virtually every single item on his plate. I remember tasting it and not understanding its appeal, it was tart after-all, and I was a kid, which meant I wanted everything sweet.  Fast forward decades later, when my palette matured and I better understood the need for acid in food, and its role in balancing out other flavors.  I stumbled upon an old recipe for "Cranberry Relish" and it piqued my interest.  After quite a few attempts and revisions, I was thrilled with the outcome.  If you are curious as to how cranberries can be made into a relish, and what that might look like, I was too!  Imagine a chunky tapenade like texture of cranberries and walnuts with bright orange and just a hint of mint. Tart, but tempered by the sugar and the freshness of the oranges.  It's like all the flavors of the holidays in one 8 oz jar. Perfect for your holiday table, and the day after, whether you enjoy turkey or tofurkey!

Kristin's Spiced Pear Fruit Spread - $11.50

Since starting this little venture, I have gotten a few calls for a pear preserve.  To to be honest, I have a love-hate relationship with this fruit.  I never eat pears fresh, but seem to like them cooked, poached, or in practically every other application that seems to land them on top of a bed or arugula.  I wasn't expecting to enjoy the finished products of my trials here as much as I actually did. I started with Bartlett Pears cooked them very slowly with star anise, fresh ginger, lemon, cardamom, nutmeg, and sugar (of course).  Once finished,  I blend the whole things to make it smooth and spreadable.  I like to think of it, as Apple Butter's wilder cousin. Apple butter leaves us with a yummy cinnamon forward treat, but the Pear Spread is reminiscent of Gingerbread.  All those yummy spices and the generous amount of ginger will instantly remind you of winter holidays and baking cookies.

Kristin’s Spiced Apple Butter - $10.50

We consider ourselves fortunate to have grown up in New England, where the changing seasons often left us wanting for sunshine.  Perhaps the most beautiful time of the year there is fall; the season for ripening apples, falling leaves, pumpkin spice, and evening stories around the fireplace.  Many a lazy Saturday finds families strolling through their local orchard, picking (and sampling) apples until the sun dips and the chill returns to the air.  Apple butter often results after these forages, filling their kitchens with wafting smells of apples and baking spices.  Imagine all the nostalgia of a baking apple pie, but without the crust, and chunky apples.  Completely smooth and spreadable.  Equally delicious on a warm piece of sourdough toast, morning pancakes, or after dinner ice cream.   Completely plant-based, no butter used! 8 oz in a glass jar.

Kristin’s Strawberry Preserves with Lemon  - $10.50

We grew up in New England, where early summer adventures often lead to pick your own strawberry farms on the side of back farm roads. We remember fondly picking and sampling those plump fruits still warm from the sunshine. It's these memories that serve as the inspiration for this creation.  Old fashioned strawberry preserves with added lemon for brightness and lift. We purposefully leave small pieces of lemon so you will randomly get a bright bite, but strawberry is the driving flavor here. Leftover biscuits from Thanksgiving will love being smothered in this stuff!

IMPERIAL VALLEY CALIFORNIA OLIVE MILL - Extra Virgin Olive Oil - 250ml - $15.00

The Barioni family has four generations of agricultural knowledge and history in the Imperial Valley.  This family produces estate olives and citrus.  At Bread and Flours, we are proud to be the first to bring this to our customers in the Coachella Valley.  This Extra Virgin olive oil is the first cold press of the olives at their Mill.  They use a mixture of Koroneiki, Arbosana, and Arbequina olives for the first cold press to produce the finest extra virgin olive oil.  The Barioni's use no pesticides or chemicals on their olive trees and this oil has a distinct flavor of green, mellow notes giving you a little tickle in the back of your throat.  Extra Virgin olive oil is considered to be the healthiest type of olive oil and it is the least processed.  We believe you will agree that is some amazing olive oil.

IMPERIAL VALLEY CALIFORNIA OLIVE MILL - Estilo Affinato a Modena Balsamic Vinegar - 250ml - $18.00

Given as a gift to Countess Matilde of Canossa from Emperor Henry II in 1046, ​Balsamic Vinegar of Modena, Italy, was used at the time as an elixir with the ancient recipe being passed through the generations from father to son for centuries.  Balsamic Vinegar of Modena has been known to be a highly sought after condiment with therapeutic qualities.  This "25 Star" rated Balsamic from Modena, Italy, continues to use the time-honored tradition using Trebbiano grapes that are heated and reduced down by 40% through evaporation and placed into cherry, chestnut, oak, and juniper barrels.  At that point, the process continues and aged in the next set of barrels and so on until you have this beautiful rich dark dense liquid that is bursting with a range of flavors that dances on your palate.

Founded in 1918, The Ashurst Family built a thriving bee business full of history and knowledge. Five generations strong of family beekeeping, in the desert landscape make this 100% raw honey hard to beat. Bread and Flours are proud to partner with the Ashurst Bee Company out of Westmoreland, CA in the heart of the Imperial Valley.  Avery Girl Honey’s namesake is derived from the daughter of Richard Ashurst, Avery.  This week we have chosen to work with the "Citrus" Honey.  Produced from citrus trees in the Imperial Valley, where the bees were in the orchards of grapefruit, lemon, and orange trees. In comparison to the Desert Flower Honey from Avery Girl that we carried prior, this is super thick and rich.  Full of flavor, that is bold, and not as delicate as the Desert Flower Honey. For us, we enjoy both, and it is fun to do a side by side tasting.

Winter Rye Sourdough




Our naturally leavened Whole Organic Rye, Organic Orange rind and Unsulphured Non-GMO molasses begins to tickle our senses with fragrance, flavor and texture.  As we begin the season of "cold" here in the desert, we look to our European friends who for centuries have been creating loaves made from Rye.  As Americans perhaps we have experienced the classic New York Deli rye, made with Caraway seeds in which would bookend a sandwich stacked a mile high with all the fixin's finished with a classic kosher dill pickle.  Today, at Bread and Flours we are tackling this grain with grace and distinction, tipping our hat to the grain fueled the empires of Charlemagne and Peter the Great.  Throughout the premodern period, bread was the foundation of the European diet at every level of society.  On average adults consumed nearly three pounds of bread and gruel daily which comprised nearly three-quarters of their caloric intake.(1)

Here we take the organic rye, house mill it for the absolute height of flavor, and add the warmth of organic orange rind freshly grated into the flour.  We also add a touch of molasses for its richness in minerals, texture, and broad range flavors.  Followed by the texture of raw organic sunflower seeds that contain polyunsaturated fats and positive vitamins such as Vitamin E, Selenium and Niacin.(2)  The flavors intermingle and mix for a pleasant and comfortable winter rye loaf.(3)

"Seed You Later" Sourdough Bread

Our classic loaf filled with Desert Durum® flour and Yecora Rojo flour which are the two grains in this multi-grain loaf. Supported by the beneficial seeds, of chia seeds, and flax seeds. Interestingly enough "Salvia Hispanica" ( Latin for Chia Seeds, country of origin Paraguay, the Chia seeds used in this loaf  ) are also related to "Columbaraie Benth ( Latin for Chia Seeds or "desert chia" from California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, Baja California, and the Sonora).  According to the Native American Ethnobotany database, the Cahuilla used chia seeds to make the eye medication to cleanse their eyes of foreign debris, or a poultice of seeds to apply to infections. Additionally, the Cahuilla also used Chia for food.  They ground the chia seed to make cakes and beverages. As we know from living in the desert the Cahuilla are the first nation of people living here in the Coachella Valley, CA  before others settled into the area.  The crackling seeds Chia and Flax seeds in this crust and crumb offer texture and added nutrition of protein, minerals, and fiber to this loaf.   We love this bread on sandwiches, or with vegan cream cheese, cucumbers, and a pinch of salt!

Organic Pima Club Sourdough Bread

I am grateful to Kurt, one of our grain guys, who introduced me to this Organic Pima Club.  Little did I know, through our hot summer, there was gold right before our eyes were waiting to be discovered.  This grain was thought to be extinct and was re-established on the Gila River Indian Reservation with the "Akiemel O'Odham" ( Pima, River people).  This is one of the four varieties believed to have been brought to the region by an Italian Franciscan priest Father Eusebio Kino and exchanged with the natives.  A well-known explorer, cartographer, missionary, and astronomer proved that the California Baja was not an island.  He also was a defender on behalf of the Native people fighting against European settlers who attempted to enslave the natives.  Today we bring you this beautiful Organic Pima Club Sourdough loaf, with organic raw unsalted sunflower seeds mixed into the crumb along with "sprouted" organic pumpkin seeds sprinkled on the top.  The soaking and sprouting of the seeds help accessibility to the seeds beneficial nutrients.  One would think that baking the seeds would harm them, yet baking increases certain bio-availability for our micro-biome to access these nutrients. Both seeds provide magnesium, copper, and zinc; studies suggest magnesium can increase our bone health and density.  This is soft white wheat, that is awnless ( no long wheat hairs connected to the seed casing) that is short, squat wheat, with a short head, differing from other grain varieties these short heads are called “club” grains or wheat, hence Pima Club.  Along with the beautiful beige color from the fresh ground, house milled grain of the Pima Club, and the sunflower seeds' added texture in this loaf, make this a winner.

A homage to the heritage of SF sourdough.  Bread and Flours take it a step further.  We add local fresh house-milled Yecora Rojo from the Imperial Valley for greater developed flavors and more rusticity.  Even this loaf has your health and wellness in mind by adding whole grain and using all the wheat berry parts into your bio-dome or your gut.  The numerous health benefits of choosing and incorporating whole grains into your diet will help develop a better you.  We believe this loaf continues to be right in line with our mission and values of using whole grain.  Additionally, we maintain the California Grain Campaign standard for all bakers to use 20% Whole grains by 2020.  We believe and value whole grain, and we also believe in building a better loaf and supporting a healthy community for future generations.  To your health!

"Whatta-bout Wheat" Sourdough Bread

A house favorite. Who knew wheat bread could taste so good? Jam-packed with flavor, crustiness, and color. This isn't the wheat bread you remember growing up. Good luck not eating this all in one day. This is fresh house milled stone-ground hard red spring wheat. Non-GMO and chemical-free. A single varietal grain from Montana and one hundred percent of the whole wheat berry ( also called the seed or kernel) is used in this bread. This flour in this loaf is not sifted.  All parts of the "seed or kernel" are used (the bran, the endosperm, and the germ) in this loaf for the highest benefit for one's health.
